Fancy Some Tea?

Are you ready for the London Olympics? With all this hype, London house decors are everywhere on display in malls. Some of them are really cute though! All in catchy colours of blue and red! So I’m thinking let’s show off some London inspired weddings for the next few days.

I’ll start with a simple give-away – custom tea bags. I saw this simple DIY from A Beautiful Mess.

These are all the materials you’ll need:

• Coffee filters
• Scissors
• Sewing machine
• Loose tea leaves
• Stapler
• Embroidery thread
• Paper for tags (you can use recycled paper for these)
• Spices like cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, etc (optional)

Moving…

Hi lovelies! How’s your week so far? Can you imagine it’s almost August already!!!

Now here’s another news! As mentioned on my previous post, Ruffles&Bells will be moving. I’ve been working on this for quite some time already…with a new layout and everything. And I do hope I’ll get to welcome all of you to our new home. More inspirations and more wedding stuff to come!

Suit Yourself

I was browsing App Store the other day and found this helpful app for grooms-to-be. Apparently, USA Network & Mr. Porter released this new iOS application ‘Suit Yourself’ to promote the new drama “Suits”. (I hear it’s good, haven’t tried watching it)

It’s quite interesting really! It allows you to dress up for different occasions (like dates, ball game, or weddings!) and it has a section on ‘how to choose the right suit’ too. Best thing is you can save the look you’ve created. Oh, and it’s free!

I think it’ll be useful to visualise how your fiancé would look on your big day. You can bring it to the tailor and show them the looks too. It’ll be easier to explain. (I don’t know much about technicalities in a suit so photos really do help)

DIY Wedding Sign

It’s painting time again! Today’s DIY is going to be wedding signs to lead your guests to specific locations on your wedding. Or perhaps just for decor.

You’ll be needing:

• wood (i used balsa wood)
• sponge brush
• acrylic paint
• stencil
• saw (or borrow one from your neighbor)
• saw guide
• pencil for guide
• varnish (optional)

First step is to cut the wood to make the arrow tip. I cut the balsa wood into half first to make the two signs. Each sign is around 14 inches long. Depending on how short you want your sign to be, you can simply use a pencil to draw the line  and then carefully cut that with the saw. Be very careful with this. If you are using balsa wood like I am, it’ll be quite easy to cut since it’s light and feels like you’re just cutting through a styrofoam.

Now this is an optional step. If you think the wood is too light, you can just buy a varnish to darken the wood. Grab any old cloth and just wipe it over the wood back and forth. Let it dry overnight before doing anything else.

Next, is to print out your stencils. Print your text in a piece of paper then cut the letters out. As you can see, I added a forest icon beside the ‘I Do’ since our ceremony was in the woods and a spoon and fork sign for the ‘We Did’. That way it’ll be easier for your guests to read it.

When you’re stencils are done, wrap it around the wood (like below) and make sure you tape it nice and tight so it won’t move when you’re painting it.

Last but not the least, take out your sponge brush and have fun! Just dab the sponge brush on the stencil lightly until the whole letter is covered with paint.

Again, let it dry overnight.

There are a few options to put your wedding sign up. You can either nail it to a tree, nail it to another wood then stake it to the ground or hang it like how we did it.

A Sentimental Friday

Feeling a bit sentimental this Friday 13th maybe because Adele has been accompanying me this whole day while working. Anyway, before I hit the sack, just want to share with you one of my favorite Adele songs. Imagine singing this during your wedding reception and dedicating it to your one and only. Good night everyone!

 

Color-Blocked

Color blocking is all the rage now in the fashion runway and it looks like it’s here to still early 2013. I’ve recently tried it on my wardrobe so I thought I might share this trend with all you brides-to-be(s) too!

First and foremost, definition:

Color blocking is a technique where blocks of various fabrics are sewn together to create clothing with a few different solid colors..

I’ve read somewhere that color blocking is not for the faint of heart. So if you think having a color blocked wedding dress is too much, you can always channel this colorful trend with your bridesmaids dresses.

The key colors this year is fuschia & tangerine, black on yellow, blue (which is now the winter color here in Australia) or neon colors.

I’m so in love with the canopy ceiling. Love the colors!  For favors, I found these adorable DIY terra cotta pots.

DIY Eco-Friendly Confetti & Envelope

Another midweek DIY for all of you! If you have lots and lots of scratch papers around, I have found a new way to use those papers you are about to throw away.

I know that confetti enevelopes are now trending with any type of events. So instead of using petals for our wedding, we used punched paper! Turns out they can be cute and easy to make!

You’ll be needing:

– roll of kraft paper
– scissors
– ruler
– puncher
– scratch paper(s)
– glue

For the confetti, just punch all you can with any paper you have. In my case, I used the left over kraft paper I have from making the envelopes.

For the label, I placed our ceremony details on it for guests to read with a “You can now Toss Me” note at the end. Glue it in front of the envelope…tadaa!
